Development Sessions programme announced
Delegate Registration for the British APCO 2012 Development
Sessions is now live, and the new format will deliver
high-level sessions and debate from key players in the industry as
well as informed opinion from external sources. The Director of IT
for Tesco will deliver a session on cost savings with new ITS
installations, and Jamie Bartlett of the Guardian newspaper
will present a view on how extremists use social media.
Two central themes for the event will be TETRA vs./with
LTE, and the use of social media in critical incidents as
well as in daily communication by the services. Cost saving
and deployment of constrained resources will inform all
debate. Key sessions will include:
- Leading US thinker Robert Le Grande on the path from LMR
to Broadband wireless communications. Drawing on experience of
the first public safety wireless network in Washington DC, Robert
will outline how to prepare for the next generation platform.
- In one of a number of sessions from industry
leaders looking at the potential of 4G / LTE; Euros Evans
of Airwave and Jeppe Jensen of TCCA will examine the potential and
the dependencies of LTE for public safety, considering both voice
and data requirements. This session will involve an open discussion
of control room and information management requirements in both
fixed and mobile environments.
- Future predictions for telecoms in 2012 - unraveling the
complexities around the Public Protection and Disaster Relief
spectrum issue; does ICT help or hinder in bridging the funding gap
in the UK and Europe? Titled 'Beyond our Wildest Dreams?', this
session will take a wide-ranging look at how 2012 may shape
up.
- The closing social media session on Tuesday
17th April will offer a high level panel discussion on
the many challenges facing all services and agencies dealing with
emergency communications. Panelists will bring a wide range of
opinion and experience to the table, and delegates should expect
rigorous debate and some difference of opinion!
